Rosemary Bowden

Photo of RosemaryRosemary has been specialising in usability of IT solutions since 1989. She has provided usability consultancy to many organisations across all market sectors, balancing user experience issues with business objectives and technical constraints.

Rosemary's work has ranged from designing the user interface to suit the user workflows, to usability testing of IT products – including co-ordinating the work of staff and users, and advising on the provision of equipment and facilities – to defining a strategy for providing usability input to IT development and implementing the strategy by providing management and usability skills to support the client. Often this has included producing and delivering User-Centred Design education programmes to the project stakeholders and the development team.

Rosemary’s background includes an honours degree in Ergonomics (Loughborough University) and a range of business and computing experience. She possesses both business and budget management skills and has undertaken project management of both long and short-term contracts.

Industry Experience

Rosemary has worked with client organisations across all market sectors, throughout Europe, to transfer knowledge through guiding good usability practice, and to shape usability testing and design methods to their needs.

She has been instumental in the design and usability testing of IT products and applications on a wide variety of platforms, including portable and mobile. Her areas of work have included both in-house and public facing systems, for traditional applications and e-commerce - B2B and B2C. Other areas of work have included forms design and user surveys.

Prior to working for Vendella Design Limited, where Rosemary is a director, she worked for CMG Admiral (1995-2001) as a Senior Usability Consultant. Previously, she was a consultant at the National Physical Laboratory. Her work there included contributing to the development of the Performance Measurement Method for usability evaluation and Usability Context Analysis, within the collaborative European research project, MUSiC (Measuring Usability of Systems in Context). The MUSiC project defined core indicators of usability, which are now incorporated into the ISO 9241 standard. She applied the methods in commercial product development in the UK, Italy and Spain as part of the project.
